‘Plenty of Room’ At PS 114 Kindergarten
'Plenty of Room' At PS 114 Kindergarten

In what Department of Education spokesperson Margie Feinberg is terming a "misunderstanding," a number of parents whose children are zoned for PS 114 were turned back last week when they sought pre-registration information for next year's Kindergarten class at the school.
"I went to the school to find out when I could register my son for Kindergarten," said one Belle Harbor parent whose child attended a private, full-day pre-K program this year. "I was told that the Kindergarten classes were capped because the school will have a sixth grade next year and my child would have to go to PS 225 instead."
The parent was advised by the school that only those children who already attended the school's pre-K program would find room in next year's Kindergarten classes.
That was in error, according to the Department of Education.
"There is plenty of room in the Kindergarten program," Feinberg said. "Those parents whose kids were in a private pre-K program will be able to register for Kindergarten seats at PS 114 in May."
No date has yet been set for that pre-registration.
