National Library Week at Beach Channel HS

National Library Week at Beach Channel HS

Reading is very much in fashion at Beach Channel High School. Last week the Library sponsored a Read Aloud in celebration of National Library Week. Student and faculty readers shared parts of their favorite published poetry, fiction and non-fiction literature. Large audiences listened and at times there was an overflow crowd.

Reading selections were presented by students, Kurt Glen, Michael Bradley, Adrian Jagdees, Wayne Bell, Lilibeth Canino, Theo Cajuste, Kerryn Irving, Jonathan Bradley, Xavier Harrison, Uthman Baksh, Rikita Walters, Danielle Gittens, Bonnie Jane Odea, Harvey Nelson, Ikenna Onyemenkwo, Jayniece Pritchette, Antoinette Jones, Javonie Miller, Kadia Murphy, Tariq Gould, Gregory Perdriel, Jahvis Ferguson, Latchmi Narine, Najette Miller, Avery Robertson, Tyisha Oyala, Brandon Miller, Francisco Amarante, Joseph Hartman, Jakea McGhaney, and faculty and staff, Margo McKenzie, David Pecoraro, Joseph Young, Christine Stanfield, Raqqayya Richardson and librarians, Betty Zapolsky and Mary Moskowitz.

The librarians commented that the students who participated have an opportunity to showcase their reading as well as practice public speaking in front of a friendly appreciative group. "…it was nicer than expected" said student, Kurt Glen.

Beach Channel High School Library sponsors many literacy events. The next event is a book discussion group of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. The group will meet after school on Tuesday, June 1 and is open to students, staff, faculty as well as parents and community. If you wish to participate please RSVP to the Library at BCHS, 718-945-6900.
