Guilty Plea In Murder, Sex Mutilation Plots

Guilty Plea In Murder, Sex Mutilation Plots

The Belle Harbor man charged with conspiring to sexually mutilate one man and murder a prison snitch pled guilty to the separate charges this week, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

David Quinn, 37, of 515 Beach 138 Street, admitted he paid an undercover state police trooper, posing as a hit-man, $500 to sexually mutilate his girlfriend’s ex-husband in retaliation for raping the divorced couple’s teenage daughter, according to Brown. The ex, a 61-year-old Queens man whose name was withheld to protect the identity of his daughter, pled guilty to a first degree rape charge in 2003 and is serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Quinn also admitted that while he was being prosecuted for the mutilation attempt, he sent more than 100 letters to prison inmates – including convicted Son of Sam murderer David Berkowitz – in search of someone willing to kill a snitch who foiled his plan. An undercover officer responded to one of the letters requesting a photo of the snitch. The undercover then worked out an agreement with Quinn whereby Quinn would mail a package containing Hershey’s Kisses to symbolize the "kiss of death" if he wanted the hit on the snitch to proceed.

Quinn, who also has a residence in Rockville Centre, mailed two packages – both containing Hershey’s Kisses – from a two Long Island post offices on June 10, 2003. Investigators subsequently searched Quinn’s Belle Harbor home and found certified mail receipts and letters from the undercover officer.

"Fortunately, both of the defendant’s violent plots were uncovered and prevented," Brown said. Quinn pled guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit assault.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Barry Kron is scheduled to sentence Quinn to between one and three years in prison on May 27.
