Brooklyn College Sets Summer Programs For Youth

Why send your kids to camp when you could be sending them to college? A spokesperson for Brooklyn College has announced "Innovative new programs at the Children’s University at Brooklyn College and the Young Persons’ Academies (for high school preparation and college preparation) that are designed to provide kids from first to twelfth grades with enrichment in mathematics, language arts, and critical thinking, combined with creative activities such as drama, chess, and puppet making."

Classes take place on the Brooklyn College campus, a "safe and secure academic institution" located in the heart of Flatbush and within easy walking distance of the D train, the Number 2 train and the Q53 bus.

The Children’s University at Brooklyn College runs from July 12 to August 19, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children who will be entering grades 1 through 6 in September, 2004 are provided with instruction in mathematics, language arts, puppetry, magic, arts and crafts, and computers. Tuition for the Children’s University is $1075.00 and includes all course materials (early morning drop off at 8 am is available at a cost of $200 per child). 

The Young Persons’ Academies, both High School and College Prep, run from July 6 to August 12, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The High School Prep, with offerings in mathematics, language arts, puppetry, chess, drama and computers, is designed for students entering grades 7 and 8 in September, 2004 and the College Prep, with courses in mathematics, vocabulary development, drama, chess, computers, and creative writing, will help those students entering grades 9 through 12 in September, 2004.

Tuition is $1075.00 for the summer and includes all course materials. Two open house events have been scheduled to provide parents and students with further information regarding these innovative and exciting programs: Thursday, April 22, from  6 to 8 p.m. and  Saturday, May 8, 10 am to noon.
