High School Sports Update
By Elio Velez
In a rainy and dreary day at Far Rockaway High School, Jodi Vitale pitched a no-hitter to lead the Dolphins with a 24-0 victory in 5 innings over the Seahorses. In a PSAL Queens IB game last Friday, Vitale allowed only three walks in 5 innings when the game was called. Beach Channel ups their record to 3-0 and Far Rockaway is 1-1.
Katie Scotko made Stella Maris’ only run count as she shutout Mary Louis 1-0. Scotko pitched a 10 strikeout complete game. Jen Seltzer’s RBI single in the second inning would turn out to be the only run of the game. The Lady Flippers improved to 5-1.
The Lady Seahorses won their first game of the year with a 1-0 victory over Forest Hills. Renella Pereira stopped 12 shots and Fayon Maclolm scored the only goal of the game in the first half for the Seahorses (1-2).
Beach Channel has exploded out of the gate with a 4-0 record in the PSAL Queens III Division. With two wins over Hillcrest and Campus Magnet, the Dolphins are tied for first place with undefeated John Adams. The two teams will meet on April 15 in the first of two battles this season.
The Dolphins won against Hillcrest with the help of Alfred Kennelly who had an all around game with 9 assists and 9 kills. Sean Mcclernon had 10 assists and Stanley Laureano contributed 7 kills. The Dolphins defeated Campus Magnet by tthe score of 25-16 and 25-18.
The PSAL will reschedule tennis, softball, handball and baseball games due to the inclement weather in the past few weeks. The games will be rescheduled when school begins on April 15.
The Wave would like to spotlight those high school sports athletes who are playing for schools outside of the Rockaways. Call 718-634-4000 or send email to email@example.com to send a short biography of the male or female athlete.
