Two Arrested For Gun At BCHS
Two students were arrested for possessing a loaded handgun at Beach Channel High School on Wednesday morning, police said.
The small caliber automatic weapon was discovered by a School Safety Officer at about 8:45 a.m. when he responded to a classroom to break up an escalating argument between two male students, according to police. Officers from the 100 Precinct responded to make the arrests.
Samuel Tyquan, 17, allegedly handed off the firearm to a friend as the school safety officer was removing him to the assistant principal’s office, police said. The name of the friend, a 14-year-old male student, was withheld because he is a minor.
"The whole incident is being investigated," said Department of Education spokesperson Margie Feinberg who described it as a "very serious infraction." The students could face disciplinary action, in addition to criminal charges, pending the outcome, Feinberg added.
Police said no one was injured in the incident.
