Hello, we are juniors at Far Rock away High School, Michelle M. Beck ford, Candie Madera and Emmanuel W. Jean-Pierre, the new Far Rockaway High School journalists.

We will bring you the happenings and all around positive aspects of our school.

One of the areas we will be informing you about is the Student Organi zation’s activities and events. We re cen tly asked Mohamed Amin, Pres ident of the Student Government, about its focus. He responded, "The Student Organization consists of a group of students who work together with the Principal, Ms. Jones, and advisor, Mrs. Mason, to see what needs to be improved in the school and how it can be done. The Student Government also participates in community service by going to elementary schools and working with younger children. We participate in the March of Dimes and Breast Cancer Walk. Trying to keep students active, we create committees to deal with the issues of the school" The other officers of Student Govern ment are Hazreena Shadick, Vice President and Shabnam Sareer, Sec retary.

A section of the Student Organi zation which helps organize anything dealing with the seniors is the Senior Council. Amin explained, "They organize the prom, yearbook, graduation and also try to help overcome any negatives of the school." Everton Robinson is the President, Shanique Nelson is the Vice President and Cindy Jagesser is the Secretary.

Another popular area will be our weekly sport updates. There is a team for each season and they include baseball, softball, volleyball, track, football, bowling, swimming, soccer, wrestling, handball, tennis and basketball. Our coaches work with the students on the teams to help increase their academic, as well as sports, potential.

Finally, we want to remind all students at the "Rock" to take advantage of opportunities to improve their grades. During lunchtimes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, students can go to room 102 for tutoring. If there is no time to spare, tutoring is offered after school on Tuesdays and Wednes days. Right now, juniors are going on Saturdays for free SAT classes which are sponsored by York College.
