Named Louisville Sluggers

Two students from St. Edmund Prep High School in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn were recently named Second Team 2004 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season High School All-Americans. Seniors Joseph Romano, and Nunzio Franzese, the only players from New York City to make the team, were selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Both students have been playing baseball in Brooklyn since the age of 4. Romano and Franzese said they are "privileged to play at St. Edmund, especially under coach Michael Ammriati." Franzese said he "loves the team cohesion and camaraderie and considers the team an extended family." Athletic Director Jeannie McEvoy, a Rockaway resident, said she is "proud of Joseph and Nunzio and she predicts an extremely successful season this year." Both boys believe their success is due to the support they receive from their families, their team, school community and their fans. According to Romano, "the fans will be a driving force on the road to the championships."
