Voice of the Faithful To Meet March 31
On Wednesday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m., the Rockaway Voice of the Faithful will sponsor a general meeting for those interested in the recently released Report on the "Crisis in the Catholic Church in the United States." The meeting will be held at Stella Maris High School on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 112 Street.
The report, conducted by the John Jay School of Criminal Justice, presented statistics on the scope of the problem, going back more than fifty years. Its purpose was to analyze the problem and the financial impact on many dioceses. It was not, however, commissioned to make recommendations for future actions. The Voice of the Faithful believes that it is time to explore "where do we go from here" and is now reaching out to the laity seeking recommendations for the church.
The principal speaker at the event will be Newsday columnist Dick Ryan. Joining Ryan will be Rev. Robert Hoatson, Ph.D and a counselor who works with victims. Hoatson is himself a survivor of clerical abuse who can provide an analysis of the report and offer suggestions.
