Honors at M.S. 53

On Thursday, March 4, M.S. 53 hosted a special nighttime assembly for Honor Roll and High Honor Roll students. Principal Ken Grah am scheduled the assembly at 7:00 p.m. to allow parents to attend after work. Food was provided for parents and students. More than twenty students were honored by M.S. 53 for exceptional scholarship in the Honors Program.

Also at the assembly were Mrs. Parker of the Parent Teacher Association and State Senator Malcolm Smith. Smith wanted to clarify issues regarding the new charter school that will start at M.S. 53 in September. The question and answer session allowed the audience to understand the new program in detail. M.S. 53’s parent coordinator, Yvette Dennis, was also present, helping coordinate the events of the evening. All candidates for honors received their certificates and congratulations from both State Senator Smith and principal Graham.

Graham pledges to have more evening events at M.S. 53. By further involving the parents in their children’s educations, Graham hopes that the students will excel.
