DA: 15-Year-Old Girl’s Pimp Faces Prison
A Rosedale man was indicted this week for allegedly pimping a 15-year-old girl in Rockaway and other areas of Queens, according to District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
Brown said Clifford Augustin, 19, of 138-05 Caney Lane, Rosedale exploited the girl by pimping her to "scores of male customers" in Rockaway, Jamaica and Queens Plaza South.
Authorities say the girl charged between $50 and $100 to perform sex acts, and turned at least two or three tricks a night for about three weeks.
Augustin, who allegedly recruited the girl from the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, is charged with multiple counts of second degree promoting prostitution, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy in the fifth degree.
In August of 2003, authorities say, Augustin approached the girl and her sister in a clothing store at the mall and told them that they could make a fortune as prostitutes. He later got in touch with the girl, whose name is being withheld, and taught her how to pick up men and lie about her age. She worked as a prostitute from September 12 to October 8, making nearly $5,000.
A law enforcement source said the grand jury heard testimony about Rockaway locations where the girl traded sex for cash, but could not be more specific.
Detectives and officers from the NYPD’s Vice Enforcement Division put an end to the alleged operation in early February after Augustin was arrested and charged with fourth degree criminal weapons possession after a street altercation in the Queens Plaza area, Brown said. Detectives recovered motel receipts, a motel key, condoms and more than $600 in cash.
Augustin faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
