P.S. 47 Class Take First Steps in Future Learning

P.S. 47 Class Take First Steps in Future Learning

On Thursday, Feb ruary 26, Mrs. Ryan’s fourth grade class at P.S. 47 in Broad Channel was involved in the first teleconference ever held in Region 5. This "distance learn ing" experience was set up by the Ward Melville Heritage Or ganization located in Stony Brook, N.Y. The title of the program, "The First Long Islanders," was an inside look at the Native Americans that once inhabited the shores of Long Island. Sitting in the school’s library, the students enjoyed the back and forth conversations between themselves and the instructor, who was giving her lesson from her organization’s museum. Through this teleconferencing experience, students at P.S. 47 learned that their teacher is not always in the front of their classroom.
