Hadassah Honors Van Leer and Chapey
The Board of Rockaway Park Hada s sah has proudly announced its annual honorees for 2004:
From the chapter’s ranks: Ruth Van Leer – past chapter president and longtime member.
From the community: Dr. Gerald ine M. Chapey – Democratic District Leader in the 23rd Assembly District Part B.
Both women were seen to exemplify outstanding examples of devotion to causes and personal generosity.
Van Leer has been a Hadassah member for 54 years, serving as pre sident four times; once for the Zip porah group, once for the Judith group, and twice as chapter president.
As chairperson of Hadassah’s youth Aliyah Luncheon for the past 35 years, Van Leer has been instrumental in raising more than $150,000.
Van Leer is the widow of the late Ira Van Leer and has four children and ten grandchildren.
Dr. Geraldine M. Chapey is accomplished in the fields of finance management, education and journalism, and the founder of Trinity Services. This project provides transportation for seniors to destinations of their choice, an intergenerational after-school program and an educa tion al/recreational program.
Chapey was named as "New York er of the Week" by New York One news channel.
Known locally for her column in The Wave, Chapey is the female Demo cratic District Leader in the 23rd Assembly District and co-president of the Rockaway Catholic Jewish Council. She has always been a supporter and friend of Hadassah.
Presentations of the awards will take place on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lawrence Country Club.
