The Inner Voice

by Marilyn Gelfand

Spring is just around the bend.A0As I look out at the light snow, and hear more about its possibility later in the week, I can know that spring is almost here.A0That’s because I believe in the order that exists in the universe or on the Earth.A0To me, it’s the continuing or der of life and nature that shows us that there is more to life.A0That babies are born, grow up and eventually be come old, that plants start poking out their crocuses and daffodils every spring show us that there is a usual pat tern in the way that nature exists.A0 There is an occasional spontaneous eruption of fire or storm, for example,A0 but all goes back to its order starting fresh.A0The order involves the interrelationship of many different life forms.A0

Each death provides food for some other species.A0Each birth may involve more than just one organism.A0When the environment changes, it affects other species. As we take away natural wild places, the predators who had a definite place in the order of life, seem to be closer to disturbing people.A0 It is incredible to imagine that elephants, gorillas, hippos and lions, among many others, all were roaming the land freely as part of life’s design.A0 It is so much fun to visit places where the wild still exists.A0 Monkeys still live in trees in Costa Rica or Sri Lanka for example.A0But we too have alligators, coyotes, bears, mountain lions, etc. in our country.A0I look out my window and see and hear the birds beginning to warm up for the spring songs as usual.A0 The squirrels, opossums, cats, birds fill the visible environment, and on the beach I am watching the geese now migrating again.A0I know soon the piping plovers will be looking for mates.A0

For me, it is a comfort to know that I am a part of the plan.A0I know I will be growing older through time, and that my succeeding generations will have their chance.A0Since it is so predictable, I try to make the most of every mo ment.A0I know that so much can happen, but it’s the fact that there is a pattern that allows me to relax and enjoy each present moment.A0
