Did you enjoy the Academy Awards? Wasn’t it elegant? For a change everyone was fully and, I must say, very beautifully and very elegantly dressed. The way it should be. Not as some years in the past , when it looked more like a burlesque show. Billy Crystal worked hard and did a nice job, but I thought the parody songs didn’t quite make it at times. (my opinion).
On the subject of awards, I attended the Christopher Awards this past week that was most enjoyable. I met some interesting people at my table: Father Leo Shea, a Maryknoll priest from Maryknoll; Linda Porto, Director of Sales Screenings at ABC Television Network and a new Breezy Point house owner on Suffolk Walk, Kate Fitzpatrick who is in Advertising/Sales at ABC Prime Time. She is young and single, very, very pretty and extremely personable.
Welcome was given by John, F. Flaherty, Esq, CEO. The Master of Ceremonies was Dennis W. Heaney, President of the Christophers. Art Linkletter received the Life Achieve ment Award, Rev. John T. Catoir, J.C.D. Christopher Leadership award and Carol Sopinnet, the James Keller Award.
This 55th annual event was held at Time/Life building and if you would like to at tend next year call The Christopher’s or www.christophers.org. Watch their TV show, Christopher Close-up," where celebrities continue to appear as guests. Founder, Maryknoll priest Fr. James Keller’s belief is that each person has the ability to make the world a better place and on the show guests talk about how they made a difference. " Light one candle85."
At Kennedy’s this past weekend I met biker Trudy Kraus, resident at Dayton Apartments. Kennedy’s is her favorite restaurant and she cycled all the way from Rockaway Beach to order the fresh fish she loves. (Per sonally, I enjoy their Chilean Bass and hope she ordered that). She appreciates fine Art and attends the RAA as well as shows at the Rockaway Theatre at Fort Tilden.
She has participated in the Gateway Nature Walk and Jamaica Bay Wild Life. And, was to attend, the Art Expo at the Javit’s Center in NYC the next day.
The Art Expo is a very special art show, and I am happy to cover it each year. Peter Max had a big exhibit as usual with his bold bright colors; Seminars were offered.
It all began with a musical bang at Art Start Hip Hop Project performed alongside world renowned graffiti artists, TATS CRU, at a special show preview Rosie O’Donnell and Jane Seymore were among the celebrity artists who have donated works for Art Start, Ad ditional donations made by Brenda Jensen Photography of San Diego, a hand embroidered silk on silk rendering of a Van Gogh original in oil and many others.
Pat Sammon and his wife sailed off on a cruise to the Caribbean. Hope they are having fun. Sorry to hear about the death of Bill Muchio. My condolences to his wife Nancy and entire family.

If you are into Latin /American and Caribbean Art you will find some very interesting paintings and sculptures from the Museum of Modern Art at el Musio del Barrio, Museum on 5th Avenue @ 104th St. until July 5.
At the FREE museum at FIT (Fashion Technology Institute) Temp tation, Joy and Scandal : Fragrance ad Fashion 1900-1959 is on view through April 10. It is opened Tuesdays through Friday 12 noon to 8PM and is located on Seventh Ave. @27th St.
Last week Rockaway dedicated Rockaway Beach Blvd at Beach 105 Street to Jimmy Sullivan in honor of the deceased founder of the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day parade. This Sat ur day the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade marched along Rockaway Beach Blvd. It is the largest Parade in all the boroughs except Manhattan. Mayor Bloomberg was present and gave his views on same sex marriage in the affirmative. The gay community made its presence known. Missing from the ranks was Grand Marshall, John Heslin..He is ill and was hospitalized. Hope you are doing better, John.
Please remember him in your prayers. The New York City St. Patrick Day parade is coming up on March 17th. Those who can’t get to the city should go to Kennedy’s to celebrate with live Irish music and Live Irish Residents. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
