March came in like a lamb, but this week gave us a variety of weather
conditions. It has not been too bad though. Besides, the weather gives us something to complain about-where would we be without it?

The American Legion Auxiliary will be holding the 1st Annual Jane Fuller Brunch for Cancer Care on Sunday, March 14 from 10 AM to 2 p.m., at the American Legion Hall.A0A mini sweepstakes will be drawn at the brunch.A0 Chances can be obtained from any auxi liary member. All proceeds from both the brunch and sweepstakes will go to Cancer Care.

P.S. 47 will hold their first Family Fun Night on Friday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, 209 Cross Bay Blvd. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for tattoos, face painting and dinosaur fun. Evening will feature "Dino-Man," a children’s theatre production. Food and soft drinks will be available. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and can be purchased in advance by calling Kate at 718 474-5902 or Laura at 718 634-2166. Un accompanied children will not be ad mitted.

Moonlight Bowling, sponsored by St. Virgilius P.A., will take place on
Sat urday, March 27 at 8 p.m. at Cozy Bowl in Ozone Park (which was Americana Lanes at one time). Tickets in advance are $20 each; at the door they are $25 per ticket. The BCAC Jamaica Bay Little League has extended registration. The additional date will be Friday, March 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the BCAC Clubhouse on Noel Rd opposite the train station, 2nd floor side door entrance. Fees are family plan: $90 for the first child; $60 for the second and $30 for the third, with $180 as the family maximum. T-Ball and Instruc tional fee is $30.A0Each child gets a uniform to keep and a trophy on family day. A $25 late fee will be imposed after the last registration date. BCAC takes postdated checks. (There will be a late fee required if you register on the above date).

There is a $50 returnable deposit required by the AC from each registered family. BCAC is requiring that each family give 2 hours of time during the season to get their $50 returned. The 2004 JBLL season will kick off on Saturday, April 24 with a parade down Cross Bay Blvd. The league has a new board led by newly elected President Jimmy Trudden. Vice Pres ident Rob Caricatto, Kenny Monahan, Dawn McIntyre and Mike Trud den are working hard with Jimmy in order to get the league started.

Registration is open to all children from 4 through 16.

Picture Book Classes for preschoolers age 3 and up will take place at the
Library. Classes will be held on Wed nesdays starting on March 17 and end ing on May 12. Classes start at 10 a.m. and feature 20 to 30 minutes of songs, stories and crafts-lots of fun for the younger set!

On Monday, March 22 St. Virgilius Rosary Altar Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Sands Casino in Atlantic City. The bus leaves the Channel at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $25 with a return of $15.

St. Virgilius P.A. will hold its annual Scholastic Book Fair for all ages. It will be held on various dates and at various times. The schedule is as follows: Thursday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 12, from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 19 the hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m. Family Literacy Night is Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. (Children: wear your pajamas and bring your favorite stuffed animal!) On Saturday, March 20 hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 21 hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The next monthly brunch held at the VFW Hall will be on Sunday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brunch costs $6 for adults; for children cost is $3 and it includes drink or juice; eggs or pancakes; bacon, sausage or ham; roll and butter; home fries; coffee and cake.

The next meeting of the Osprey Club will be Thursday, March 18 for grades 4, 5 and 6 at P.S. 47 after school. For information on joining this group call Kate 718 474-5902, Laura 718 634-2166 or Don Riepe at 718 318-9344. New members are always welcome.

BCVFD news: The 99th is a memory now with their 100th to look forward to. For this year, however, the Vollies have a new Chief, Andrew Knee. Honored at the dinner were: EMT of the Year, Brian Leonard; and Fireman of the Year, Greg Battaglia.

There will be a Blood Drive at the VFW Hall on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eddie O’Hare was among those appointed by the Mayor recently to serve on a committee to rate applications of people trying to be selected to become the torch bearer to carry the flame out of New York City for the next Summer Olympics to be held in Athens, Greece.

Many of the Channel’s artists belong to the Rockaway Artists Alliance which features a new exhibition in sTudio 6 Gallery called: "small, smaller, smallest: an exhibition of miniatures." The exhibit of small works can be seen from Saturday, March 27 to Sun day, April 25. On Saturdays gall ery hours are from noon to 5 p.m.; on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.A0The Gall ery is located at the Gateway National Recreation Area on Fort Tilden in the Rockaways. (Studio 7 is
closed for the winter months).
