Neponsit Adult Day Program Moves To Rockaway Park

After four years of operating the Neponsit Adult Day Health Care
pro gram in the basement of a local
sy n agogue, the newly-constructed and newly-renamed DSSM-Neponsit Adult Day Health Care Center will hold its Grand Opening on Monday, March 8.A0 Now under the auspices of the Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (DSSM), the Center is also affiliated with the Central Brooklyn Family Health Net work, and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

This exclusive, state-of-the-art facility includes a large kitchen for cook ing activities, a quiet room for rest or television viewing, a beau tiful activity and dining room, and spacious, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms.

Services offered at the Center in clude medical, nursing, social ser vices, therapeutic recreation, nutritional coun seling, and rehabilitative activities.A0Hot and cold lunches are provided daily, as well as door-to-door transportation.A0These services provide the
registrant with the support needed to remain in the community, which
helps them to avoid or delay institutionalization.

A spokesperson says that "The staff is very excited to welcome the Rock away community to the new loca tion at 230 Beach 102 Street in the Sands Point Professional Center.A0 The staff is professional, dedicated and experienced; that’s what makes this program so successful."

Senior activity therapist Beth Gut man is excited to get started on
cooking activities in the new, large kitchen, fully-equipped and ready
to go.A0 "Cooking is very popular; everyone loves to try something new!"
she quipped, as she stocked the kit chen cabinets with pots, pans and a waffle-iron.A0

Activities like painting, parties, Bingo, shopping trips, movies, cooking, dancing, gardening, and therapeutic exercise keep seniors "young at heart", and encourage socialization.

Clinical dietician Stephanie Sautner counsels registrants on good eating habits at home, to ensure that seniors maintain their health. She keeps track of what is being eaten, and develops diets for those with hypertension or diabetes.

The Adult Day Health Care program has been in operation in the Rock aways since 1989, and is dedicated to the care of the elderly, physically disabled, and the cognitively-impaired residents of the Rockaway community.A0 The program runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; each session is five hours long.A0For more information, please call Program Direc tor Maxine Schack at 718-634-1400.
