Meeks Given Award

Meeks Given Award

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown honored Congressman Gregory Meeks last Tuesday as the recipient of the William Garvin Public Service Award.

Garvin, who died in 1966, was the first African-American Assistant Dis trict Attorney in Queens County and an annual award is presented in his name in celebration of Black History Month. Congressman Meeks once served as a former Assistant District Attorney in Queens County.

Brown noted that Congressman Meeks has been a dynamic leader whose life, like William Garvin’s, has become an inspiring success story.
