The Friends of Rockaway, Inc. (FOR), a local environmental group, is calling for an investigation into the practices of the Sanitation Depart ment and the "illegal" dumping of garbage strewn fill into "cleaned" lots.

The "cleaned lots" are federally and municipally funded strip-mined properties, according to FOR President Bernard J. Blum.

He reports that he was threatened with arrest while taking information on such a lot in public use while the city was dumping garbage on it.

Blum also demands an investigation whether chemicals were in the illegal dumps, especially nearby Norton Drive on Beach 43 Street to Beach 44 Street in Edgemere.

Blum concludes that even the NYC Housing Development Authority has ignored such Sanitation Department practices in environmental analysis for the Arverne/Edgemere proposal.
