Bethel AME Church Celebrates The Legacy

The missionary Society of the Bethel AME Church, located at 215 Beach 77 Street, will present a program celebrating the "Legacy of the African" on February 29 at 3 p.m.

The program will acknowledge several community members for their commitment to this great legacy.

Among those to be recognized are Angela Logan, the principal of MS 198 in Arverne and Elaine Short, the director of the Ocean Village Daycare Cen ter as well as the First Vice Pres ident of the Far Rockaway Branch of the NAACP, who will both receive the Mary McLoed Bethune Award.

The "Legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer Award" will be presented to Carolyn Webb, Louvenia Curtis, Mou ella Mitchell and Genevieve Teachy.

The community is invited to share the oral history of the unsung heroes.
