The weather has been fairly agreeable of late, leaving a lot of people
pleased and surprised. As a result there has been little to complain about weather-wise. Spring is waiting pa tiently in the wings though, with just a few weeks left to go till it’s here!
Registration for the Little League is as follows: Saturday, February 28 from 9 a.m. to noon and Friday, March 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fees are family plan: $90 for the first child; $60 for the second and $30 for the third, with $180 as the maximum per family. T-Ball and Instructional fee is $30.A0 Each child gets a uniform to keep and a trophy on family day. A $25 late fee will be imposed after the last registration date. BCAC takes postdated checks.
Registration will be held at the BCAC building on Noel Rd and the train station, 2nd floor side door entrance.
This year the BCAC is taking a $50 returnable deposit from each registered family. BCAC is requiring that each family give 2 hours of time during the season to get their $50 returned. The league works only if people give their time and effort. Anyone who would like to get involved can send the AC an email to: email@example.com.A0 Help in running the league is needed and wanted.
"Kids Puttin’ on the Hits," sponsored by St. Virgilius P.A. will take place on Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at the Amer ican Legion Hall. Tickets cost $10 each. Call Mary Kay at 718 634-2040 for tickets or more information.
The monthly brunches held at the VFW are fundraisers, with money going to a good cause. They last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next brunch will be held on Sunday, March 7.
The two-session Defensive Driving Course is available. It will be held in St. Virgilius School in the lunchroom on Tuesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. Those who complete the course can choose from 10% off the cost of their car insurance for three years or point reduction on their licenses-up to four points off the license. Mark the calendar! On Tuesday, May 25 St. Virgilius School’s annual Golf Tournament will be held. Information on this event printed as it becomes available.
The American Legion Auxiliary will be holding the 1st Annual Jane Fuller Brunch for Cancer Care on Sunday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.A0A Mini Sweep stakes will be drawn at the Brunch.A0 Chances can be obtained from any Auxiliary Member. All proceeds from both the Brunch and Sweepstakes will go to Cancer Care.
A bus is available to take seniors to the Green Acres Mall on the second
Monday of the month. The bus picks up at Cross Bay and Noel Road. Passengers are asked to be at the corner by 9:15 a.m. The bus leaves the corner at 9:30. It returns riders to the same corner, leaving the mall at 12:45 p.m. It is a 20-minute trip approximately. The enclosed mall with its controlled temperature protects from the elements and is great for shopping, lunch or just walking around and looking at the window displays.
Now that Wal-Mart is open, the bus lets folks out to shop there until 11:15, then picks the shoppers up and drops them at Penney’s. Most folks enjoy lunch while they are in the mall -there are so many places to eat in the food court!

The bus to Green Acres is sponsored by Councilman Joe Addabbo and is free of charge to the shoppers. Even if you do not need to shop every month, it is a nice trip to take-to enjoy lunch out, nice surroundings and the company of a great bunch of people!
The next Books and Bagels book discussion will be held in the Library on Thursday, March 11 at 10 a.m. Under discussion will be "The Time Traveler’s Wife," by Audrey Niffenegger. This is rather a thick book-those who cannot finish it in time do not have to miss the discussion-they are always welcome and wanted there.
BCVFD Installation of Officers Din ner Dance will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the American Legion Hall.
The cost is $30 per ticket in advance, $35 at the door. Call the firehouse

Save the date! Moonlight Bowling, sponsored by St. Virgilius P.A. will take place on Saturday, March 27 at 8 p.m. (The bowling alley was re-done and re-named a while back; it used to be Americana Lanes, now it is Cozy Bowl). More details on this event in a future column.
Seniors can shop at Waldbaum’s on Beach 114 St. in Rockaway Beach. Shoppers travel on a minibus that costs $1.50 round trip. Bus picks up seniors at Noel Rd. and Cross Bay Blvd. between 9 and 9:30 a.m. every Thursday morning.
One hour is al lowed for shopping after which the driver will lift your groceries into the bus and you and your groceries will be brought to your door.
If you want to take advantage of this, just show up at the corner at 9 a.m.
The annual Day of Recollection for People with Disabilities will be held at Immaculate Conception Center on Saturday, February 28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is a spectacular day with phenomenal speakers, really good
food—continental breakfast and hot buffet lunch and 3 p.m. mass (filling Sunday obligation).
