Donate Blood At PHC, Visit The Bronx Zoo
Beginning February 16 through Feb ruary 26, anyone who donates blood at any Long Island Blood Ser vices (LIBS) Donor Center or at a blood drive will receive two free tickets to the Bronx Zoo.
Peninsula Hospital Center in Edge mere will be running a blood drive on February 23, from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and those who donate blood on that day will be eligible for the free tickets.
The tickets are valid for admission during the weekend of February 28-29, 2004, and grants entry into all featured exhibits at the Zoo.A0This program is being offered to donors on Long Island as recognition for their life-saving donations.A0
This promotion comes at a time when the Long Island community’s blood supply is once again on emergency status.A0The local supply of blood has shrunk to alarmingly low levels, with its supply of O Positive frozen emergency blood now depleted.A0Fall back resources are unavailable be cause other local blood centers across the nation are experiencing shortages as well and don’t have any blood to share.A0Distribution of blood to area hospitals has been cut by as much as 40% and deeper cutbacks may be necessary.A0 Blood centers in some states have already urged their hospitals to cancel elective surgeries, but Long Is land Blood Services has not done that.
Eligible donors must be age 17 to 75 (76+ with a doctor’s permission), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health.
