Rockaway Helps Unisphere Celebrate 40 Years

Rockaway Helps Unisphere Celebrate 40 Years

The work of three Rockaway artists – inspired by the World’s Fair Uni sphere – will be auctioned at an upcoming event to benefit the Queens Council on the Arts .

Stained glass artist Patrick Clark and husband-and-wife neon artists Robbie and Theresa Ingui’s work will be shown during "Fabulous at Forty!" – a cocktail party celebrating the 1964-1965 World’s Fair Unisphere’s 40th anniversary.

Standing at nearly 140 feet tall and weighing 900,000 pounds, the Uni sphere is the largest model representation of the Earth ever created. Gilmore Clarke, an associate of Robert Moses, designed it out of steel.

"Fabulous at Forty!" will also honor New York State Senator Serphin Maltese and several others, and Estelle Cooper, Assistant Commis sioner of Queens Parks will receive a special award.

The party will be held at Terrace on the Park on Thursday, February 12, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling QCA at 718-647-3377.
