Weiner Knocks ‘State Of The Union' Address
Representative Anthony Weiner recently issued the following reaction to President Bush's State of the Union address: "President Bush spoke for almost an hour, but he was silent when it came to fulfilling important promises to New York City. The President's rhetoric falls far short of reality when it comes to funding police, schools and homeland security.
"In the President's speech there was not one word about making good on the promises of the No Child Left Behind Act, and the $1.24 billion in aid that the City was supposed to get, but hasn't. There was not one word about saving the COPS program that the President wants to cut even though it's put more than 7,000 police officers on New York City streets. And there was not one word about correcting inequities in the high threat homeland security grant program, that was supposed to get needed funding to cities most at risk of terror attack, but which has turned into just another pork barrel spending program, sending hundreds of millions to places like Fresno and Louisville while funding to New York City is cut by $102,690,000.
