Eigth Grade Board Games at M.S. 53

Eigth Grade Board Games at M.S. 53

Eighth grade classes at M.S. 43 have started making board games. Not Monopoly, Clue or Life, but games based on the eighth-grade science curriculum.

Dea Dusenbury’s eighth-grade science classes have just finished creating board games as a culminating cooperative project at the end of their Solar System unit. Classes have incorporated astrono mers, planets, stars and galaxies into the board games that they play each day.

Board games were made of all sizes, formats, colors and design. Students utilized Ms. Barras’ computer center to produce their games’ instructions.

Principal Ken Graham feels that this cooperative project is a learning experience for science. His next plan is to introduce the "learning by board games" and similar concepts to other grades and subjects.
