Reading and Tutorial Program Set

The Josephine Johnson Reading and Math Tutorial Program is a ten-year old faith based tutorial program named in honor of its founder, the late Josephine Johnson, who was a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church. Johnson served as chief of staff for Congressman Gregory Meeks and was a respected community leader in the Rockaways.

The program aims to help the neighborhood youth improve their reading, writing and mathematics skills, as well as SAT/Regents preparations. The program meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month between September and May from 12 Noon to 3 p.m.

The program accepts students between kindergarten and grade 12 in high school. Classes are held at St. John Baptist Church on Beach 74 Street and Rockaway Beach Boule vard.

Additionally, on Friday, January 16, from 7 to 10 p.m., a charitable basketball game is being held at JHS 198. All proceeds from this event will be given to the Josephine Johnson Reading and Mathematics Tutorial Program.

For more information call the St. John Baptist Church office at 718.945.5550, Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
