Gateway Fees Set to Double February 1
Gateway National Recreation Area (GNRA) has announced that there will be an increase in the cost of special use permit fees for 2004. Leaping from $25 to $50, the fee covers activities such as fishing, off-road vehicle access, camping, car-top boating, archery and community garden plots.
This will be the first increase of fees in at least eight years, according to GNRA Public Affairs officer Brian Feeney. "We haven’t received any budget increases in the last two years, so our permit holders understand why we had to raise fees to administer the park," says Feeney.
Permits are limited for certain activities such as off-roading for which only 750 are available.
The annual permits go on sale at Fort Tilden (718.318.4300) and Floyd Bennett Field (718.338.3799) on Saturday, January 24 and are effective from February 1.
