Cross Bay Accident Draws BCVFD, Driver’s Ire
A minor accident on Cross Bay Boulevard on Monday afternoon drew more than the usual attention for a number of reasons. The first was that the accident took place directly in front of the Hillebrand Funeral Home, and many members of the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department were at home to pay their respects to their Assistant Chief, who had recently lost his brother.
Secondly, the unidentified woman involved in the accident, who many eyewitnesses say was responsible for the crash, loudly berated the man who was driving the other vehicle.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman refused to allow police officers to drive her car to the side of the road to reopen it to motorists.
"Even though she had broken something in her foot or ankle, she pushed the cops aside and drove the car herself," one eyewitness told The Wave.
Another eyewitness said that the man had stopped to allow them to cross the road and then proceeded to make a turn on Cross Bay Boulevard when the woman involved drive through the red light and hit the man.
Police says that nobody was badly hurt and there were no arrests or tickets as a result of the accident.
