Guns Off Street = Money For You
Police want to get guns off of Rockaway streets and are offering cash incentives if you help them.
Turn in your unloaded handgun or assault weapon through the "Cash for Guns" program and get $100 ($50. for shotguns). No questions asked. Give police anonymous information leading to the arrest of anyone possessing an illegal handgun through "GunStoppers," and you’ll receive a $1,000 reward.
"If we get the guns off the streets there is less of a chance somebody will get hurt," said 101 Precinct Commanding Officer Captain Walter Salowski. Both programs have helped recover more than 100 potentially dangerous weapons in that precinct alone, Salowski said, and help prevent shootings.
Weapons are accepted at any police precinct, including the 101 Precinct, at 16-12 Mott Avenue, the 100 Precinct, 92-24 Rockaway Beach Boulevard and at the Transit District 23 office, temporarily in the Waldbaum’s parking lot near beach 115 Street.
There is no limit to the amount of weapons you may turn in, but there is a $300 maximum payout for the "Cash for Guns" program. Call the precinct to make arrangements ahead of time.
Call 1-866-GUN-STOP to report an illegal handgun. Callers don’t have to give their names and are instead given an identification number.
