Nassau Parks Supervisor
Lige Boyd Jr., a lifetime Hammels Houses resident, passed away on December 16. He was 84.
Boyd, who was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was a supervisor who worked for the Nassau County Parks Department. He also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Delores Miller, of Memphis, Tennessee, Peggy Boyd, of Rockaway Beach, Elaine Boyd, of San Fernando, California and Margaret Jackson of Pennsylvania; sons, Kevin Boyd, of Rockaway Beach and David Simmons, of Houston, Texas; sisters, Jesse Bell Boyd Leggs and Mary Boyd Johnson, of Spartenberg; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Monifa Shashaun Callwood
Monifa Shashaun Callwood, who was also known as "Droopy," passed away on December 14. She was 24.
Callwood, who was born in the Bronx, was a lifelong Rockaway resident. She was a college student.
Callwood was preceded in death by her grandfather Antonio Callwood.
She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Culver, and father Arnold Callwood; brothers, Arnell, Hakim, Shamar, Tony and Malcolm; sisters, Shanifa, Eboni; maternal grandparents, Marion and Leroy Culver; paternal grandmothers, Eliza West and Violet Callwood; aunts, Bobbie Hooten, Kathy Mohammed, Jackie Frazier, Maria, Carol and Adrian; uncles, Allen, Jamel, Tony, Michael and Louis; God children, China and Camryn; special friends, Tony, Melyne, Lashonda, Latoya and Shaheeda; and other family members and friends.

William H. Epstein,
William H. Epstein, M.D., of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away on December 12, 2003.
Epstein, formerly of Belle Harbor, was the head of the Department of Podiatry at Peninsula Hospital Center. He practiced locally for 30 years, and had an office on Beach 116 Street. Epstein was a past president of the Rockaway Rotary Club.
Epstein is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Lee Epstein (Rina); daughter, Judi Kreitzer; grandchildren, Kimberly, David, Amanda, Nicole, and Joshua; a sister, Rose Shalette (Harvey).
Services were held at the Star of David Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, in Lauderdale, Florida.
Gertrude T. Farrell, a Breezy Point resident for 40 years, passed away on December 29.
Farrell, who was born in Manhattan, was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Farrell, and a brother, Richard Dowdell.
Farrell is survived by her son, Terry Farrell; daughter, Sherrod F. Lynster; brother, Raymond Dowdell; and grandchildren, Terrance Farrell and Teig Farrell Lynster.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Other arrangements were kept private.
Marion French (nee Kelly), a retired teacher, passed away in Pennsylvania at age 95.
A Far Rockaway native, her teaching career spanned more than 40 years.
French is preceded in death by her two husbands, Tom Williams and Marshall French, and her son Richard.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Kerlin; son-in-law, Michael Kerlin; granddaughters, Kathy Bucaria and Christine Dwyer; daughter-in-law, Helen Williams; and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at St. Joseph's Villa. Internment was at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing.
William G. Gallway, a retired NYC Sanitation worker and Vietnam Veteran, passed away on December 24.
Gallway, who many called Billy, is survived by his wife, Laurene; brothers, Kevin, Thomas and Timothy; sisters, Maureen and Theresa; and the rest of his family, Angela, Juliana, Joseph, Michelle, Wendy and Carla. He is also survived by five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Camillus R.C. Church. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
Dorothy L. Henry
Dorothy L. Henry, a lifelong resident, passed away on December 16. She was 73.
Henry was born in Newark, New Jersey. She received her masters degree and was a social worker. She also affiliated with the Haven Ministries and Outreach Church of God in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rene (Myasia).
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Sr.; sons, Ernest Jr. and Barshai; daughters, Deborah and Michelle; grandchildren, Hasheim, Majestic, Barshar, Sacheem, Princess, Shakera, Shavonne and Shawna; great grandchildren, Nylasia, Barshai, Jaquan and Marques; a brother, Eugene Smith; and many other family members and friends.

James H. Jourdan
James H. Jourdan, an Ocean Village resident for more than 30 years, away on December 15. He was 79.
Jourdan, who was born in Newbern, North Carolina, worked for Amtrak.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine White.
Jourdan is survived by his daughter, Pamela; son, James Jr.; daughter in law, Laverne; sisters, Lila Barclift and Dorothy Lester; grandchildren, Troy, "Little" Lorraine, Joshua and Tira; and other family and friends.

Thomas J. "Buddy" Kelly

Thomas J. "Buddy" Kelly, a 20-year Rockaway Park resident, passed away on December 27.
Kelly, who was born in Manhattan, was a retired U.S. Postal Service Customs Division clerk. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded two Purple Hearts with oak leaf clusters and two Bronze Stars with an award for combat. He was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve (nee Hynes) Kelly; sons, Dennis, Kevin and Thomas Kelly; daughter; Kathleen Reilly; sister, Catherine Urso; and grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher, Kevin, Thomas and Devon.

William June Mines, a lifelong Rockaway resident, passed away on December 19. He was 53.
Mines, who was born in Aiken, South Carolina, worked as a chef.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie.

Marie Veronica O'Neill, a Rockaway Point resident for many years, passed away on December 29.
O'Neill, who was born in Brooklyn, was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Church. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Breezy Point Golden Age club.
O'Neill was preceded in death by her husband, William O'Neill; daughters Veronica Jones and Joan O'Brien; and her son, Thomas O'Neill.
She is survived by granddaughters, Margaret Dunne, Linda O'Neill, Marie Bragman, Joan O'Brien Crane and Patricia O'Neill; grandsons, Timothy O'Brien, Thomas O'Neill, Daniel O'Neill, James O'Brien and Kenneth Daly; and a sister Anna O'Rourke.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More on Friday, January 2, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home.
David J. Walsh
Bus Mechanic, Veteran
David J. Walsh, a retired Green Bus Lines mechanic passed away on December 24, in Longwood, Florida. A native of Far Rockaway, Walsh served in the United States Navy. He was 73.
Walsh is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann; daughter Suzann Keith; four sons: David, Thomas, William and Kevin; brothers James and Ernie; seven grandchildren: Edward Jr., Theresa Ann (Tiger), Jessica, Matthew, Ryan, Michael and Melanie as well as one great-grandchild, Cassandra.
Internment was at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, on December 30.
Retired Maintnance Engineer
Lena Wheatle, a retired maintenance engineer, passed away on December 21. She was 80 years old.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Wheatle lived in Rockaway for the last year. She was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Cambria Heights.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Muriel and George Passley.
Wheatle is survived by her daughters, Faith and Julianne; four grandsons: Edward, Andrew, Jonathan and Brandon; three nephews: Clive, Carl and Horace Passley; sister-in-law Louise, grandnieces grandnephews and devoted friends.
