Our New Year’s Wishes For Rockaway

Rockaway is on a roll. You can feel it from the ground up. New home construction is increasing and will reach a crescendo with Arverne By The Sea, as well as all the other community builders. We look forward to economic growth, shops offering all the amenities many Rockawayites have been seeking off the peninsula. Business growth brings jobs, which in turn bring more growth. We look forward to a community center, a movie theater, a hotel, an outlet clothing store, a revitalized, updated, inviting shopping areas on Beach 116 and Beach 20 Streets, where we can walk, window shop, dine; a boardwalk we can walk and enjoy in the evenings and a sparkling beach to enjoy all day, clean and reliable transportation to transport us around the city, safe schools with room for all our children. No guns, No gangs. Some say we’re crazy to entertain such thoughts. But we do. They are small dreams for our wonderful community. But for each dream, each hope, we can work together and achieve all we hope for one step at a time. Each New Year’s we agonize over the little things we promise to accomplish or change in the coming year. The year 2004 is no different. We hope to see our neighborhoods grow and prosper. We hope that all our citizens have jobs, homes and health. We hope to see our servicemen and women come home. We hope to see peace for all mankind. All of us at The Wave wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
