Arraigned In Queens On Murder Charges

Police say he killed two men in Far Rockaway last summer and then fled upstate to escape justice, but they caught him anyway – and they say he has admitted his guilt.

Shamel Dwight Hollenquest, the NYPD’s suspect in a drug related shooting that left two men dead on Gateway Boulevard, on July 30, was arrested in Rochester last weekend. 101 Precinct Detectives tracked Hollenquest, of 15-02 Mott Avenue, more than 350 miles to a relative’s house, and then called in local police before making the arrest.

At his arraignment, in Queens, Hollenquest was charged with second degree murder, criminal weapons possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.

Police say he fired several shots at a black Lexus occupied by the victims, Rudolph Michelle and Shonnon Day, both in their early 30s, and two witnesses. Michelle was pronounced dead at the scene, and Day died at the hospital a short time later.

101 Precinct Detectives said Hollenquest, who was identified by witnesses, admitted that he was the shooter, according to court papers.

Queens Criminal Court Judge Stephen Knopf ordered him held without bail. His next court date is January 5, 2004.
