On December 18, with the help of local postal officials, Santa Claus made a whirlwind tour of the Post Offices in the Rockaway area. The day started at the Inwood Post Office and ended in Rockaway Park.

"I try to bring joy to everyone’s household," said Santa in an exclusive interview for The Wave at the Far Rockaway main office. "I wish joy and happiness to everyone of all faiths."

The connection between Santa Claus and the U.S. Post Office goes back a long way. As many will remember, back in 1947, it was the U.S. Post Office who helped to identify the real Santa Claus in "Miracle On 34th Street." The Post Office and Santa Claus also have a lot in common as one postal official in Far Rockaway pointed out.

"One thing Santa and the Post Office has in common is they both deliver to every house," said the official.

But, in some good-natured fun Santa himself was quick to point out that he is more efficient.

Children who met with Santa came away with a toy, a candy cane a wonderful Christmas memory.
