First of all, I want to wish all of my readers a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season. I do hope you have a happy New Year and that Santa brings a special blessing to you and your family from God. My sincere heart felt wishes for a year of good health, a year of sunny, sunny smiles, hearty laughter and one that is filled with good times. We have all had our share of heartaches the past few years. Let’s leave them behind us and look ahead to a joyous future, one that extends kindness, good thoughts and good deeds to one another.

While on the subject of good deeds………Carl Robinson and Michael McCabe of the 101 Pct. in Far Rockaway received the Finest of Finest Awards for their heroic deeds beyond the call of duty during the year at the Finest of Finest Award luncheon at the Waterclub in New York this week. Seated next to me was P.O. Joseph Coll of 70 Pct.in Brooklyn. He loves Breezy Point and looks forward to his visits with his sister and brother-in-law, Tom Halligan and their children, Christine, who attends Maris H.S. and Timmy, a Breezy Bag Piper. Congratulations to Patrolmen Robinson and McCabe. We are all so proud of you. And, I suppose, we can attribute our low crime rate to men of your courage in 101 Pct. Please, keep up the good work.

The Dental Show was in town at the Javit’s Center this past week and, much to my dismay, I learned that halitosis (bad breath) does not come from the stomach, as many of us believe. 90% is oral………..from caries, infected gums and food lodged in teeth. You must make sure you not only brush properly, make sure you brush your tongue, all the way toward the back, where most bacteria lurks. If you don’t have a sonic electric tooth brush, I suggest you get one ASAP. There is no other brush on the market, that I know of, that will give you such a thoroughly clean feeling mouth. Plenty of teeth whitening products were evident everywhere. Even my own dentist told me many of these over-the-counter teeth whiteners are just as good as dental office whitening and a great deal cheaper. One of the best is opalescence gel applied overnight. Others are good. too. Experiment and find what works best for you. They do claim the whitening does not work on bonded teeth. However, you can whiten as best you can first with a store bought product and then the Dentist can match the color on the bonded area later. There were children’s brushes galore and the most effective are the battery run ones. Dental offices are turning into spas and becoming far more pleasant to visit than ever before. You no longer have to face pain in the dental chair. Plus, during your visit you can have a facial, reflexology or a body massage and more. You will look forward to your next dental visit.

Pictured at the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel are Mort Sahl and Dick Cavette bantering with one another as I let lose laughter at their humor . The National Foundation of Jewish Culture presented the Fifth Annual Alan King Award in American Jewish Humor to Mort Sahl that evening. Mort Sahl, in his V neck trademark sweater, has satirized and entertained Presidents from Eisenhower to Clinton. He brought political awareness to the American people through comedy and has never backed away from his views. Dick Cavette was there to lend support and to praise him.

If you have ever been to an Italian feast be prepared to sit for hours and hours as each delicious course is presented. That is the way it was when food from Umbria, ( a region in Italy) was prepared by Chefs from Umbria at Bucco Restaurant on Bond Street, NYC. Stepping into Bucco one gets the feeling of an ancient bistro in Italy with the old antique iron railing and wooden tables and benches. On the floor below the dimmed wine cellar, reached only by a steep wooden staircase, was the center of activity. . Liturgical music was playing on this night as we nibbled on appetizers washed down with fine champagne before seated upstairs to enjoy all the main courses

Gerard Casey, proprietor of Kennedy’s on the Bay, was all smiles this weekend. His son, Brian flew in from London where he is attending Oxford , to spend the holidays with the family. Enjoy! Joe Kilbride and bachelor buddy made their annual trip to the Big Town to celebrate Christmas time at Benson’s Restaurant.

Caryn Crowley celebrated her birthday on Dec. 18. Congratulations, Caryn.

Jimmy Matuozzi marks another year on Dec. 27. Early January Frankie Gallagher becomes a year older.

Carolyn Sizemore is also a year older on Christmas Day. Continued health and happiness to all!

Van Cleef & Arpels held a chi, chi annual Christmas party for their socialite customers. And, woud you believe? Some pretty young ones wore their tight, tight jeans with pretty, frilly tops. Not that they did not look adorable, but, my, how times have changed.
