Xavier High School Soccer Champs
Xavier’s High School Varsity Soccer Team, coached by Sgt. Atherton and Ms. Georgitis, recently completed the most successful season in school history going 9-5-2. Although the season ended in a 2-0 loss to Canisius High School of Buffalo in the state semi-final contest, Xavier won their division for only the third time and the New York Archdiocesan Class A Championship for the first time in school history.
Members of the team include juniors Brendan Smith and Andy Spyliopulos of Rockaway Point.
Xavier was undefeated against their traditional division opponents. The regular season division championship was decided at Fordham University in the last game of the season when Xavier defeated Regis 2-1.
In the quarterfinals of the Class A City Championships at Kings Point, Xavier continued their strong defensive play and defeated Iona 2-1. Xavier ultimately lost in the semi-final match to Holy Cross 3-1. Congratulations on a great season.
