New Alliance Promises Help With Healthcare
A new Rockaway organization can help you get healthcare even if you are undocumented or have no insurance coverage at all, its administrators say.
The main goal of the Rockaway Health Alliance, said Fern Zagor, is to reduce barriers to healthcare. Zagor is the project manager of the Project for Rockaway Youth in Safety and Education (PRYSE), which oversees the new alliance.
The program’s director, Mary McCloy, outlined the aim of the RHA at a meeting at the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center in Far Rockaway this week.
The RHA, which was established last year, will focus on community outreach, education and managing a computer based referral system.
Zagor said the RHA has assembled "an Army of health advocates" – about 75 adults and teens – who will reach out to find people who are sick, but haven’t sought help. They also plan to host public health forums throughout the peninsula.
