Marilyn Blicksilver – Passion, Wit And Community Service

It is my pleasure to have a wonderful and dear friend – Marilyn Blicksilver. Marilyn was born under the sign of Scorpio. Persons born under this sign are intuitive, passionate, forceful, emotional, exciting and magnetic. They are delightful to be around, perceptive in discussions, eloquent and reserved. Marilyn combines the exciting qualities of several women also born under the sign of Scorpio including: Hillary R. Clinton, Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn and Emily Post.

Marilyn is a passionate person. She is passionate about her family, her friends her leadership role in Hadassah and her community.

Marilyn is a woman of purpose. As a newlywed she and her husband Jack moved to Queens. She and Jack created a loving family. They followed the advice of Paul when he wrote in the Bible "Encourage one another and build each other up (I Thessalonians 5:11). They raised two wonderful sons: Peter and Owen. Peter graduated from Harvard Business School. He married Debbie whom he met while studying in Boston. They have two children – Zoe and Zachary. During the Hadassah Heart luncheon last May, Marilyn (the proud grandmother) presented Zoe with a life time membership in Hadassah. Zoe (aged 10) gave a poignant and carefully thought out speech. Her presentation was powerful, poised and very memorable. The apples don’t fall far from the tree in this family. Zoe has many of the talents of her grandmother. Marilyn’s other son David is a renowned professional in public relations. He is married to Mary Ann Rice. They have one son – David.

Marilyn is a publicist. While her children were in school Marilyn took the opportunity to share and express her creative talents. She has the ability to be inventive, original and analytical. She strongly believes in the important motto – Shop until you drop. She combined these fine talents in a weekly column, which she wrote for many years entitled "Browsing Around". Through her column Marilyn shared her unique insights and knowledge of quality, pricing and buying.

Marilyn’s strong sense of purpose is also seen in her leadership role in Hadassah. She has been a guiding force in the Rockaway Park Chapter for many years. Currently she serves as the program chairperson and the chairperson of the annual Snow Bird luncheon. Each month Marilyn uses her talents as a publicist to create interesting and informative programs, which involve the membership. In the US, Hadassah promotes health awareness programs, advocacy, first amendment issues, Jewish education and leadership training. In Israel, Hadassah supports two hospitals, five schools within the Hebrew University, medical research, a college, career counseling, youth programs, land reclamation and children at risk. It is interesting to note that Marilyn’s son, David, discovered his talent in public relations through working with his mother for Hadassah. He began by taking pictures at Hadassah happenings. The local newspapers quickly discovered David’s talents which led to a very successful career in public relations.

Marilyn is a woman with pizzazz!! When Marilyn walks into a room she always makes a fashion statement combined with a sunny and warm personality which immediately lights up a room.

Best wishes to Marilyn Blicksilver as she continues to be an inspiration to all who know and love her.
