An army of rescuers raced to the Rockaway Point Jetty on Monday afternoon when a fisherman used his cell phone to tell police he was cut off from the shore by the rising tide, authorities said.

New York City Police Department helicopters took to the sky, and the NYPD Harbor Unit and U.S. Park Police deployed boats when the call came in. On land, more than six rescue vehicles raced to Beach 219 Street in Breezy Point to gain access to the beach.

A city firefighter wearing an exposure suit and a safety line had started into the water but a Harbor Unit boat quickly maneuvered close enough to the rocks and brought the man safely aboard, authorities said.

Ryszard Mazur, a Bay Ridge, Brooklyn man was identified by U.S. Park Police as the fisherman. They said Ryzard, who is in his 30’s, gave rescuers the "thumbs-up" from the jetty to indicate that he was not injured in the ordeal.
