Rotten Weather Could Spoil Weekend Events
Both the street naming for James Conway Sullivan and the annual lighting of the Little North Pole are set to take place this Saturday, December 6, but the weather could spoil the fun.
Sullivan’s event, 1 p.m. at Beach 105 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, is rain or shine, and will be cancelled only in the event of severe weather, according to City Councilman Joseph Addabbo, Jr.’s office. If cancellation becomes necessary, it is unclear when the new date will be.
The Little North Pole lighting is slated for 6 p.m. sharp at 144-03 Neponsit Avenue. There will be special appearances by Santa Claus and the Rockaway Theater Company, food and drinks. All donations will go to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the new Children’s Diabetes Center at Peninsula Hospital, according to organizer Joe Mure. In the event the weather is bad call 718-852-9100 to see if the lighting will take place. Mure said the reschedule date would be the first day of nice weather after Saturday.
