Four years after her gold-certified, massively acclaimed debut Just Won’t Burn Tedeschi has returned with an album that weaves a thread of blues tradition into a broader sonic quilt. Co-produced by Tedeschi and legendary Tom Dowd, Wait For Me excels at incorporating everything from swinging R&B and groovy Rock’n’Roll to plaintive piano balladry and sweaty roadhouse improv. On Wait For Me, Tedeschi cements her reputation as a heart-in-the-throat singer, sneaky-sharp guitarist and sweetly evocative songstress. The album was recorded in stops and starts around Tedeschi’s pregnancy with her and guitar prodigy husband Derek Truck’s (famous for his own band as well as the Almans and Phil Lesh and Friends) first child. It’s lyrical direction reflects her life and love.
A member of her church choir, Tedeschi started her first band at the age of 13, and was on the Boston club scene before she finished high school. By the mid-90’s, her eponymous blues combo was one of New England’s biggest draws. She attended Berklee School of Music and toured massively before she caught Tone-Cool’s ear. Upon the release of her first album, the late Timothy White gushed over Tedeschi’s "passionate, utterly unpretentious approach to music. [Tedeschi’s] vocals seethe, whoop and roar with enough sensual bluster to break the seal on whiskey bottles and tear the leaves off trees."
