Two Far Rockaway men who turned up at Peninsula Hospital with gunshot wounds said a man dressed in black fired at them nearly ten times while they were walking behind a property on Beach 54 Street on Monday, according to police.

Roberto Smalls, 22, who was shot in the foot, and Floyd Anthony Sanders, 23, who was shot in his backside, told police they realized they were wounded when they felt a burning sensation as they ran, according to police. The men, who both live on Beach 59 Street, were listed in stable condition following the incident.

Police from the 101 Precinct responded to a "shots fired" call at about
7 p.m., but Smalls and Sanders were gone by the time they arrived. Police found no evidence at the scene, but were called to the emergency room minutes later to investigate two men being treated for bullet wounds.

Smalls and Sanders told police they were walking through a pathway at the rear of 363 Beach 54 Street when the saw a man in black about 20 feet away near a flagpole, police said. The two men said they fled after the man began firing several shots at them.

Police returned to the scene to search for the weapon or ballistic evidence, but found none. A warrant check revealed that Sanders was wanted in connection with disorderly conduct and trespass offenses. The investigation in to the shooting is on-
going.
