Shackelford Makes CPO
Navy Chief Petty Officer Sylbourn E. Shackleford, son of Derrilin Anderson of Far Rockaway, was recently selected for promotion to chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy while assigned aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, homeported in San Diego.
While serving in the ranks of petty officer first class, Shackleford became a candidate for promotion to chief petty officer by passing a written exam.
A selection committee, comprised of
other high-ranking chief petty officers
and commissioned officers, selected Shackleford from among other top candidates based upon his leadership and professional abilities.
Promotion to chief petty officer marks a major step in Shackleford’s naval career.
The ranks of chief petty officers are comprised of only top Sailors who
are technical experts within their job rating.
Shackleford is a 1984 graduate of Beach Channel High School, and joined the Navy in September 1985.
