One construction worker was killed and two others injured, last Friday afternoon, when a cable they were moving by crane came in contact with a live power line, police said.

Anthony Nelson, a 42-year-old Brooklyn resident, was pronounced dead at Peninsula Hospital about an hour after the accident, police said. Nelson, who was the father of nine children, was studying to become a preacher and was planning to marry soon, according to a story in Newsday.

The other two men injured, 35-year-old Thomas Tierney, and 40-year-old Mitchell Guest, were also taken to Peninsula. Both men were treated for burns, but were expected to recover.

The accident occurred just after 3 p.m., at a construction site on Beach 53 Street, between Old Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive – just a few steps from the hospital.

Work continued at the site this week – the crane still in place. Police made no arrests and issued no summonses, but said they were investigating.
