Rockaway Youth Lacrosse Clinics Continue
For the fifth consecutive Sunday, Rockaway boys and girls participated in a Lacrosse Clinic provided by the Rockaway Youth Lacrosse League. Following the varsity football match up between Beach Channel and Far Rockaway High Schools, a dedicated group of 20+ kids practiced their lacrosse skills under the supervision of an all-volunteer coaching staff.
The weather has been a contributing factor to the success of this sporting venture, not to mention the dedication of the kids to learn this ancient sport. Assisted by Tim Kelly of the Long Island Lizards, his brother Chris who plays at C. W. Post, Coaches Ann Marie Toomey, Greg Carter, Tony Reyes and Dan Kirk, the kids practice multiple drills, which require speed, agility and determination.
Clinics will continue at Beach Channel High School through the fall
(weather permitting) as the League pursues an indoor arena. The goal of these clinics is to train these future young lacrosse players to a point where they will one day be competing against other teams in the Long Island Lacrosse Association area. We are hoping to form a team to participate in this winter’s Lacrosse League competition in Oceanside. We are still recruiting new players in age groups 7 to 12, so grab your stick and come down to the field on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and prepare to have some "FUN". Equipment will be available for sale at each clinic.
