Parking Restricted For 587 Memorial
The 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach has announced that a number of streets on the west end of Rockaway will have restricted parking on November 12 in order to facilitate the memorial services for the victims of American Airlines Flight 587, which crashed in Belle Harbor on November 12, 2001.
"We anticipate that between three and four thousand people will crowd the area," a spokesperson for the precinct told The Wave. "For that reason, Beach 131 Street will be closed all day from Beach Channel Drive to Rockaway Beach Boulevard."
He added that other street closings may be necessary throughout the day to facilitate the movement of the buses that are transporting the family members from various parts of the city to Rockaway.
In addition, there will be a procession, led by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, from the crash site on Beach 131 Street and Newport Avenue to St. Francis de Sales Church on Beach 129 Street at approximately 9:30 a.m.
