PHC Ball An Affair To Remember
"Another year...another success!", states Joel A. Miele, Chairman, Board of Directors and Robert V. Levine, President and CEO of Peninsula Hospital Center.
This enthusiastic sentiment expresses the enduring commitment of the community toward our community hospital; as well as defines Peninsula Hospital’s presence as a caring neighbor to the community that it continues to serve.
Once again, the occasion of the Anniversary Ball is perhaps the premiere Black Tie event of the social season where Benefactors, Board Members, Administrative Staff, Personnel, and members of the community come together to fete and celebrate the good work of the hospital. It is also an occasion to meet the fin e professionals with whom we entrust our heathcare and our way of saying thank you to them for this care.
As of press time, over three hundred thousand dollars was raised from this year’s event; its theme, a Mexican Fiesta! These proceeds will benefit the on-going enhancement of patient care areas throughout the hospital, according to Robert Goldman, Public Affairs Associate.
Since Healthcare is always evolving, PHC, under the exceptional leadership of Robert Levine, and its all alliance with the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, has taken great strides to keep up with the advances in medicine and technology to provide to the Rockaway community access to better Healthcare.
Recent projects have been the opening of a newly modernized emergency department. The renovation included new waiting room and exam areas for pediatric and orthopedic patients. My personal favorite is The Angels on-the-Bay Pediatric Wing that was completed several years ago. According to Board Member Officer and Benefactor, Nancy Vardakis, "As with the Angels on-the-Bay unit, with the same creative use of theme, colors and a design concept, we have sought to provide a soothing and cheerful "kid-friendly" atmosphere that is both comforting for children as well as their parents."
The endeavor of this year’s Anniversary Ball was made possible by the selfless generosity and talented efforts of Marvin E. Eisenstadt, Patte Bogen-Roberts, and Martin A. Ginsburg, MD who Co-Chaired the event. Special recognition is also given to Robert M. Mayer and David S. Ribet, Journal Chairpersons; Karen Boxer and Diane Calabria-Ginsburg, Auction Chairpersons; and Barbara Eisenstadt, Dr. Peter A. Galvin, Selma Kaplan, and Nancy Vardakis for their creative energies in developing the themes of these Gala festivities. Entertainment was provided by the La Masquerade Dance Troupe. (Please see the photographs in this week’s edition!)
Msgr. Martin Geraghty gave the Invocation. Marvin Eisenstadt, as the evening’s Masterful Master of Ceremonies, gave a warm welcoming address. Greetings were given by Joel A. Miele, Chairman, Board of Directors; and remarks were rendered by Robert Levine, President and CEO.
This year ‘s Honorees, Louis T. Caucig, member of the Board of Directors, and Dr. James O’Connor, member of the Medical Staff, are recognized for their continued demonstration of excellence and exceptional leadership toward the P.H.C. community. Presentations to the Honorees were presented by Patte Bogen-Roberts and Dr. Peter Galvin, Chief Medical Officer. Proclamations were given by Councilman James Sanders and a Representative of State Senator Malcolm Smith. Citations were also submitted to the Journal by Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton, State Senator Ada Smith, Assemblywomen Audrey Pheffer and Michelle Titus, and Queens Boro President Helen Marshall.
It was personally nice to dine in the company of Nancy Vardakis, Mr.and Mrs.Gregory Tsatsis, Marie and Herbert Villanueva, Dr. Berge and Gert Tutundjian, Drs.Yvette and Robert Hyman, and Ms.Grace McCloskey. It was a pleasure to see and speak with Marvin and Barbara Eisenstadt who are always so gracious, and to meet their very personable and handsome son, Steven. Also amongst the throng of supporters were Mrs. Lucy Salpeter, Mrs. Anne Levine, Barbara J. Morris, Dr. Geraldine Chapey and Eugene Pasternak, Regent Dr. Geraldine D. Chapey, Jerry Rashkis, Dennis and Lauralee Fulton, and Nadia and Tom Murphy, to name just a few of the nearly 400 guests who attended!
In the event that one should ever have the need of PHC, it is certainly comforting to know that we are fortunate enough to have such a state-of-the-art hospital facility; as well as the enduring dedication of its Board of Directors and Benefactors. They are a distinguished roster of individuals like the Eisenstadts, the Cirkers, Patte Bogen-Roberts, Selma Kaplan, Mr. and Mrs. David Ribet, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Schwartz, the Mayers, the Hoffmans, the Grubers, Commissioner Joel and Josephine Miele, Ms. Gertrude Oltchick, and Mr.David Thypin who, through their generous philanthropy, continue to support these special projects on behalf of the entire community. Thank you and congratulations on another year...well done!
***Another event on the social calendar was the Chamber of Commerce Golf-Outing held on October 24 at the Breezy Point Course at Riis Park. The successful event was Chaired by Barbara J. Morris.
