The Costumed Halloween Party at the Sugar Bowl was a huge success. Seigfried and Roy and tame stuffed tiger took top awards. The Sugar Bowl was held open this season because of the heat installation this past Spring when it was renovated. It will reopen in May. Much of this column is late news because our columns are only being printed every other week. If
you are displeased with this please contact Wave managing editor Howie Schwach.

Maureen Ritter, Claire Timmons and other friends (names lost in computer which deleted itself just before I was ready to send it out.) (Call me and let me know names again and I will print them next column) were all commenting on the beautiful new home being built on Utica Walk (former home of Tess Crowley) by her grandchildren, Patty and Bobbly Crowley……..Joe Kilbride just returned from a beautiful trip to Sanabel Island which is a gorgeous spot in Florida to vacation.

Lee Leonard of Breezy celebrated her 80th birthday at the New York Athletic Club with family and friends. Those invited from the beach were: Frances Abbracciamento, Ronnie McCarthy, Dottie (golfer) Dunne, Gertude Canell, and Bob and Kathleen McGloughlin. All had a fabulous time!

The New Amsterdam Theatre celebrated it’s 100 birthday with the appearance of the Ziegfred Girls. I spoke at great length with Billie Blanchard, who claimed she had a charmed life. Came to N.Y. to act, filled in time as a model and Ziegfeld signed her for the Follies. She worked with Eddie Cantor in Chicago. Eddie’s grandson, Gary enjoyed talking with her about his grandfather. Doris Dana was present and is unbelievable! Looks in both Billie Blanchard and Doris Dana have held up beautifully through the years as well as their minds. Doris was the specialty dancer in the Follies and to this day is twinkling her toes on the stage of the New Amsterdam just shy of 100. She appears annually at B’way Cares Cure for Aids benefit. The New Amsterdam Theatre is magnifient in it’s renovation. The image of one of the Follies Girls is embedded in the ceiling. You can also view pictures of the former Ziegfred Girls on the mezzanine floor. A fascinating place to see.

It was an "Unforgettable" evening at Rockefeller Center for the opening of the Ice Skating Rink.. Award winning vocalist and daughter of Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, sang her heart out to the joy of others. It was not a red carpet but off white carpet that lay in the middle of the rink on which stood two open bars and waitress with tiny morsels to service the VIPs. A beautiful arched iced staircase under which gorgeous slim ice skaters whizzed along to the delight of all. The staircase lead the dinner in the Rockefeller Center Restaurant. It was an "Unforgettable" evening.

New York Jet’s star Quarterback, Chad Pennington, Athlete of the Year was honored in the Grand Hyaat at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for his tremendous contribution to the New York Jets and to the New York Community and especially to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which takes top priority. His father-in-law recently died from leukemia The wonderful football memorabilia on display was auctioned off to raise funds for the cause. Another beautiful evening you can also attend. Just call the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for their next event.

On UHF35 TV this week, "Together Tunes" is a very entertaining educational toy for toddlers. It is a sizable cloth box that plays nursery rhythms as you turn the box and flip the flaps. Look for GigglePants in the stores. A funny game that requires the child to jump into the pants provided when his chip falls on Giggle Pants. It teaches colors, number, dressing and more.

In Central Park, you can view the painting and etchings of the region of Liguri, the Park of Portofino and Cinque Terre National Park made possible by the Park Conservancy, New York Parks & Recreation and the Institute of Italian American Experience.
