Father Arrested In Death Of
An Arverne man was arrested on Monday for the September death of his three-month-old son. The young child was found unconscious in his home and rushed to Peninsula Hospital Center, where he was declared dead.
At the time, the boy's father, Andre Cooper, 34, of Beach 66 Street, said that he was sleeping with the baby on his bed when he rolled over him. He said that he did not notice the baby on the floor until he heard a noise and looked around.
Late last week, however, the New York City Medical Examiner ruled that the September 8 death of Allah El was a "Homicide by Suffocation."
Two days later, police detectives from the 100 Precinct arrested Cooper in connection with the homicide. Sources close to the investigation are "skeptical" of Cooper's account, but would not say why.
Cooper was charged with manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned in Queens Supreme Court on Tuesday.
While prosecutors requested a $150 thousand bond, Judge Midica ordered that Cooper be held on $80 thousand bond.
Cooper's next court date is set for November 12.
