Meeting To Address 9/11, Flight 587
A community meeting will be held to ask local residents about their needs for counseling services regarding the aftermath of Flight 587 and September 11. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital South Shore, in collaboration with Greater New York Hospital Disaster Relief Fund and the United Hospital Fund, invite members of the Rockaway community to the meeting which will be held on Monday, November 3, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Fort Tilden administration building in the environmental room. Parking and the entrance to the building are available at the rear of the building.
The events of Flight 587 and September 11 are still deeply felt throughout the Rockaways. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital continues to offer art therapy for children at the Graybeards’ office. A new counseling program to be established for both adults and children will be discussed at the meeting.
"We would like to ask the community’s assistance in shaping a new counseling program that we have to offer, thanks to the support of GYNHA and UHF," said Nat Etrog, Director of Mental Health Outpatient Programs. "Local residents can come to the meeting to bring us their suggestions or come and learn how to help."
The new program calls upon volunteers to serve as peer counselors. For more information about the community meeting or the counseling programs available, please contact Mr. Etrog at 718-869-8822.
