Rotary Hears from Homeless Advocate
Rosie Schaap, (right) the assistant director of The Partnership for The Homeless, Emergency Shelter Network, was the guest of the Rockaway Rotary Club at their regular luncheon meeting last Wednesday at Snug Harbor. Schaap spoke to the club about the Partnership, work with neighborhood organizations, business, government, faith organizations, and individuals attacking the root causes of homelessness and empowering homeless people to leave the city’s streets and shelters for lives of independence and financial security. She reported that last year the Emergency Shelter network provided almost 200,000 nights of shelter and about 400,000 meals to homeless New Yorkers.
